Television is one of the most practical of inventions, but it's not a neccessary daily ritual. Get home, sit down, turn on TV, watch for hours until I'm tired and go to bed. There are plenty of other stimulating things to do. You could read a good book, go out with friends, learn a new sport or art, join a club.. as long as it doesn't involve just sitting there.
So, you can learn a lot from Television, if you watch the right programmes, intellectual ones, educational ones. But if coach potatoes had any sense, they would get off their butts and do something! So they're more likely to watch rubbish. Television is great. Everyone who has a TV likes watching the odd programme, and there are some pretty good ones, but excercise, reading, creating things is far more ineteresting!
Lots of people are busy. Lots of people couldn't imagine the complete horror of a whole night in front of a TV. Coach potatoes tend to use the excuse that they're too poor to take up a hobbie, but there's no escape.. because taking a jog around your neighborhood is free (Not to mention exhilarating and good excercise) and there are loads of other great "free" or really cheap clubs and associations you can join. If nothing in your area interests you, you could even start up your own club!
You can't blame your 'rents! Some parents even try to encourage their spouses to get a life, but they're too LAZY. Yes, that's what it all comes down to.. laziness. You can't be bothered to get up out of that seat and dive into an exciting and unexplored new world of interests!
People are starting to think you're boring.. people are starting to get bored of your knowledge of TV schedules..
Get a hobbie. Don't become a boring person, beyond hope. Soon you'll be arranging your socks in color co-ordination. Soon you'll be bird wtaching, train spotting!
And no.. TV Addictism isn't a hobbie!
